Holiday Greeting Cards in Arts & Crafts Style

Images of cards.

Illustrations from cards by local artist Cindy Lindgren.

First, consider two small Minnesota companies that produce beautiful paper products. For most of her career, Cindy Lindgren was a freelancer producing commercial illustration. Then she discovered her passion—producing artwork in what she calls “Nouveau Craftsman” style. You may recognize Cindy’s work if you received the set of bungalow notecards she produced for the Twin Cities Bungalow Club a couple of years ago. View her holiday-themed cards online at www.etsy.com/shop/CindyLindgren.

Examples of Duluth artist Rick Allen’s work, available from Kenspeckle Press.

Another Minnesota artist working in the Arts & Crafts style is Rick Allen who, with Marian Lansky, owns Kenspeckle Letterpress in Duluth. They produce beautiful, odd and witty cards and prints, many of them using the handmade letterpress process. Find them online at kenspeckleletterpress.com, or visit their shop in Canal Park at 394 South Lake Avenue, Suite 206, Duluth.

A handmade letterpress card from Saturn Press.

If you really want to go retro, consider purchasing some letterpress cards from Saturn Press, a small business located on an island off the coast of Maine. They’re so old fashioned that they don’t even have a website.

You can find some of their cards on reseller websites, but your best option is to request a catalog by sending a note to Saturn Press, 463 Atlantic Road, PO Box 368, Swan’s Island, ME 04685. You’ll get a wonderful 32-page catalog showcasing their cards and other paper goods, along with ordering information.

Angel and poinsettia cards.

An ascending angel and a poinsettia are two of the holiday cards available from Wildflower Graphics.

Another source for a variety of holiday cards is Wildflower Graphics, located in Greenwich, New York. Their collection ranges from stylized holiday flowers and botanicals to angels and traditional sayings, sold individually or as boxed sets. They also offer giclee prints on archival paper; ceramic tiles; and cork-backed coasters. View the cards, many with designs influenced by the Arts & Crafts movement, at wildflowergraphics.com/index.html.

One of Yashiko Yamamoto’s Christmas-themed greeting cards.

Also on the West Coast is The Arts & Crafts Press in Tacoma, Washington, which offers beautiful letterpress cards bearing lovely designs by co-owner Yashiko Yamamoto. The company offers 19 holiday-themed cards that anyone on your holiday list would be thrilled to receive. Visit their website at artsandcraftspress.com.
